Amethyst Ombré Necklace

September 2015
Amethyst, pearl, sterling silver

I had these giant chunks of rough-cut amethyst lying around, and had been debating what to do with them. Then I paired them against some black pearls, and I really loved the way that the amethyst chunks brought out the purple in the pearls' iridescent peacocking.

Since the amethyst beads weren't all the same shade, I laid them out with the darkest beads at the ends of the necklace and the lightest three beads in the center, creating a subtle ombré effect. I finished it off with sterling silver spacer beads between the pearls and the stones, to protect the pearls from the rough surfaces of the larger beads.
