Crashing Waves Engagement Ring

March 2026
14 karat rose gold, sapphire, emerald

A client came to me with a selection of stones to set in an engagement ring, including a beautiful cornflower blue Ceylon sapphire. He knew he wanted to use these stones, he knew he wanted rose gold, and he and his intended both have a love of the ocean.

After going over several options, we came up with the idea of having the emerald and white sapphire side stones being swept by waves toward the center stone, which itself would be buoyed by larger crashing waves in the center of the ring. The view on the sides of the ring were based on MC Escher's 1918 drawing "Waves," which vividly emulates the shorebreak waves of Hawaiian beaches—perfect for the mermaid princess bride-to-be.
