"Flowing Peace" Cartouche
January 2011
Sterling silver
The placid-looking characters on this cartouche, 桃花流水 (táohuāliúshuǐ), are from the poem "The Perch in Jade-Hued Hill" by Li Bai, one of the greatest poets of the Tang Dynasty. Translated as "peach blossoms flowing along with the water," the line is suggestive of lovers going along peacefully together with no signs of disturbance despite their great differences.
