Ganymede Pendant

November 2008
Sterling silver

Ganymede, a moon of Jupiter, is the largest moon in the Solar system and is larger than the planet Mercury. It has a negligable oxygen-based atmosphere and is the only moon in the system with a magnetosphere.

In Greek mythology, Ganymede was a Trojan prince who was abducted by Zeus (in the form of an eagle) to Mount Olympus to become immortal and to serve the gods as cupbearer. As the object of Zeus' affection, Ganymede is often regarded as a symbol for homoerotic love, but is also simply know as the ideal of youthful beauty.
