Princess Cuff

circa 2002
Sterling silver

This was made for my friend Sara, whose name means "princess" in Hebrew. The Chinese word for princess is 公主 (gōng zhǔ), so I took the cursive (also known as grass script) versions of those characters and then stacked, connected and further stylized them. Once that was sawed out of sterling sheet, it was hammered into a cuff bracelet. The result is what at first glance seems like an elegant, abstract and whimsical design that holds a deeper meaning. And it looks pretty great on her wrist!
