The ulua, or giant trevally, has long been an important fish in Hawaiian culture. A favorite of sport fishermen and an important source of sustenance even today, the fish held an important place in cultural practice and lore. Ulua could stand in for human sacrifice, and in one variation of the Hawaiian creation story, the demigod Māui hooked an ulua that broke into eight pieces that became the eight main Hawaiian islands.
The style of the optional popcorn chain echoes the look of traditional Hawaiian olonā fiber cordage, and the slightly satin finish on the leioglyph gives it a glow not unlike that of beach glass.
Measures approximately 3.5cm x 1.5cm (1½” x ½”)
